Who is responsible for a blocked drain — me or the water company?

As a general rule, you are responsible for drains within the boundary of your property. Shared drains and public sewers that serve more than one property are the responsibility of your local water company (Yorkshire Water in West Yorkshire, United Utilities in Greater Manchester). If the blockage is in a shared sewer, you should contact your water company. If you are unsure, our engineers can help identify where the blockage is and advise on responsibility.

Will you need to dig up my garden to unblock a drain?

The survey is recorded and you receive a full report with footage and recommendations.

Will I receive a report after the CCTV survey?

After every CCTV drain survey we provide a full written report including the recorded footage, a description of any defects found, their location within the drainage system, and our recommended course of action. This report is suitable for use with insurance companies, solicitors, mortgage lenders, and local authorities. We can also provide a WRC-compliant drainage survey report if required.

Can a CCTV survey find the exact location of a problem?

A CCTV survey is the definitive way to confirm pipe damage.

Will drain repairs require digging up my garden or driveway?

What is high-pressure drain jetting?

High-pressure drain jetting (also called hydro jetting) uses a powerful jet of water at pressures of up to 4,000 PSI to blast through blockages, remove grease and scale build-up, cut through tree roots, and thoroughly clean the inside of drain pipes. Can drain jetting remove tree roots?

The finished lining is extremely durable and can last 50 years or more.

Drain relining using modern CIPP (Cured-In-Place Pipe) technology is designed to last a minimum of 50 years. The resin liner is highly resistant to corrosion, root ingress, and chemical attack. Many manufacturers provide a 50-year structural guarantee on their lining products, and we pass this guarantee on to our customers.

Is drain relining suitable for all types of pipe?

Drain relining is suitable for most common pipe materials including clay, concrete, PVC, and cast iron, and for pipe diameters from 100mm up to 1,200mm. It is not suitable for pipes that are completely collapsed or where the pipe has shifted so severely that a liner cannot be inserted. A CCTV survey is always carried out first to confirm that relining is the right solution.

Does drain relining reduce the diameter of the pipe?

What should I do while waiting for an emergency drainage engineer?

While waiting for our engineer to arrive: stop using any water outlets connected to the blocked drain to prevent further overflow; if sewage is backing up, place towels or sandbags at doorways to limit spread; turn off the water supply at the stopcock if a pipe has burst; open windows to ventilate any sewage smells; and take photos of any damage for insurance purposes.
